《To Each His Own City》
From dawn till dusk, the city is always in motion. Regardless of form, space or time, our city is full of possibilities. After the premiere of To Each Her Own City in 2017, Stella & Artists presents a new production - To Each His Own City - this August, featuring two creative works by the emerging choreographer Joseph Lee (Hong Kong) and the acclaimed choreographer Ergao (Guangzhou). From a male perspective, the choreographers are trying to explore the relationship between individuals and the city while evoking our affection towards the city.
Inspired by two previous colonies - Macao and Hong Kong - Joseph interprets the close and metaphorical connection between social and individual history through historical context. Along with elements like numbers, events, as well as personal and collective history, his work The World Was Once Flat projects room for imagination. Meanwhile, Ergao invites the audience to experience his work Virtual Lotus together and define it yourself. Lotus, the floral emblem of Macao, symbolises integrity and purity. How does our body connect with the symbolic lotus? In today’s society, what happens to our body under the impact of virtual reality? Is what we see truly what it is?
